Update 2015/6/7 : Suppression of a part about genetics. I shall talk about it another time.

Utopias like Émile ZOLA's La Cité Heureuse tell the story of a paradise. Dystopias like George ORWELL's 1984 tell the story of a hell.

What we do is what we get. Let us now study the dynamics leading to either hell or paradise.

I Vicious and vertuous circles
II Surrounded by the opposite
III What future for humankind ?

I Vicious and vertuous circles

In life, there are vicious circles. For example, an alcolholic person may be ashame of being alcoholic, then drink alcohol to forget that shame, then be even more ashamed... In a vicious circle, things evolve worse and worse.

A vertuous circle is the contrary. For example, if people spend time together, they will know better each other, so they will know what to do please other, so they will wish to spend more time together...

Good and evil are dynamic and observe vertuous and vicious circles. If a society is led by a vertuous circle, it will get better and better. But if a society is led by a vicious circle, it will get worse and worse. What I mean is that it moves, it cannot stay at the same level of morality.

It is possible to draw a map of vertuous and vicious circles. I will try it for France and the city of Freiburg in Germany.

Vicious circles have the shape of a square. Vertuous circles have the shape of a circle.

Vicious circles have the shape of a square. Vertuous circles have the shape of a circle.

I am sure that Grenoble follows a vicious circle because people communicate very little with each other. I am quite sure of the positive evolution of Freiburg in Germany because people like to please themselves, and sometimes shout strong against injustice in the street. I put a positive evolution for Clermont-Ferrand because it is a place where the struggle against injustice is strong, but I think that the influence of Paris is bad. I stayed a little time in Poitiers, so I cannot be sure. Poitiers seems to me as a very bourgeois place, with fascists facing no opposition.

II Surrounded by the opposite

Here comes the martial part. If an army is surrounded by its enemy, it will lose. This is also true for the war of good against evil.

Feathers represent good, horns represent evil. If a bad place is surrounded by good influences, it will become good. The same is true for evil surrounding good.

Feathers represent good, horns represent evil. If a bad place is surrounded by good influences, it will become good. The same is true for evil surrounding good.

III What future for humankind ?

We have seen that good and evil are dynamic. What future will we have for mankind ? I see three possibilities.

  • all human societies will become a paradise ;
  • all human societies will become a hell ;
  • some human societies will become a paradise and some human societies will become a hell.

I think that the third possibility is the most realistic.

What can we conclude of it ? If we want good to win, we must not have all the good places surrounded by evil. How can we do this ? We must draw a map of vicious and vertuous circles for all the world. This gives a lot of work for the moralists...
